Backing Into a Parking Space

Park facing out, so you're not reversing blind later. Scored on some states' road tests, not all.

Now you are facing out. When you leave, the whole lane is in front of you before you move.

Step by step

Pull past the space

So park the other way round. Signal, then drive past the space until your mirrors clear the last line.

Wheel toward the space, reverse in

Turn the wheel toward the space and reverse. Your nose swings out, and your rear swings in.

Straighten and square up

Straighten the wheel, look through the rear window, and back in until you sit square between the lines.

Frequently asked questions

Backing Into a Parking Space — is it on every state's road test?

No. Each state's licensing agency sets its own maneuver list. This one is used by some states and not others — check your own agency's page before test day. The road test guide lists the official sources this app checked.

How do I practice this before test day?

Drive the maneuver with your supervising driver, and keep the written rules behind it sharp with the free turns, parking and backing module — no account needed.
