What is the maximum speed limit on Alaska's rural interstate highways?
- A. 75 mph
- B. 70 mph
- C. 65 mph
- D. 55 mph
Show answer
C. 65 mph — Alaska's maximum speed limit on rural interstate highways is 65 mph. Most of Alaska's major roads are two-lane undivided highways rather than interstates; the default rural highway limit is 55 mph. Urban areas default to 25 mph and residential streets to 20 mph. Alaska's severe winter conditions mean drivers are expected to travel below the posted speed limit whenever road, weather, or visibility conditions require it — the 'basic speed rule' always applies.
